Dayara Bugyal
Bugyal, is the local language means "high altitude meadow".The road to Dyara Bugyal branches off near Bhatwari a place on Uttarkashi-Gangotri road about 32 km from Uttarkashi . Vehicals can go up to the village of Barsu from where one has to trek a distance of about 8 km to reach Dayara . Situated at an elevation of about 3,190 mt above sea level , this vast meadow is second to none in natural beauty . During the Winter it provide excellent ski slopes over an area of 28 square km. From this spot one can trek down to Dodital which is about 32 km away , through dense forests.
Dodital
The road from Uttarkashi to Gangotri,bifurcates at 4 km from Uttarkashi and vehicles can go up to Kalyani,7 km further up,from where,Agoda is 5km trek away at an altitude of 3,307mt. The trek from there ascends gredually through thick forests and beautiful mountainous scenery. Dodital,a sparkling and crystal clear lake surrounded by forests is 16km further,at an elevation of 3,307mt.The famous Himalayan trouts arefound in abundance in the lake . Permit for fishing can be obtained from the Divisional Forest Officer, Uttarkhashi.
There is a beautiful Camping Site, Forest Rest House and a log cabin by the side of the lake.From there are one can trek down to Hanumanchatti(27km) and then to Yamunotri.
Nachiketa Tal
A drive through the terraced fields takes one to Chaurangi-Khal, a place 29 km from Uttarkashi .From there a 3 km trek through lush green forests takes one to Nachiketa Tal , a tranquil spot .There is greenery on around and a smal temple at the bank of the lake gives it a serene look. Nachiketa , the devout som of saint Uddalak, is said to have created this lake , hence the name.
Gangotri
Along the right bank of Bhagirathi stands the shrine of Gangotri dedicated to the Goddess . Perched at a height of 3,042 mts. It was constructed in the earlier 18 th century by a Gorkha Commander, Amar singh Thapa . Every year , lakhs of pilgrims throng the sacred temple between May & October.By november , Gangotri is covered by snow . It is believed that the Goddess retreats to Mukhba , her winter abode (12 km downstream).
Yamunotri
The first stopover of the Chardham Yatra is the westernmost shrine of Yamunotri in the Garhwal Himalayas. Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, it is perched atop a flank of the BandarPoonchh peak (3,165mts above the sea level) and is situated opposite to Gangotri.
