| The district of Tehri Garhwal
stretches from the snow clad Himalayan peaks of Thalaiya sagalr, jonli and the
Gangotri group all the way to the foothills near Rishikesh. The gushing
Bhagirathi which runs through seems to divide the district into two,
while the Bhilangna, Alaknanda, Ganga and Yamuna rive border it on the east
and west. Its immediate neighbouring district are Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pauri,
Rudraprayag and Dehradun. History has it that the king of Garhwal expressed
his gratitude to the British for liberating Garhwal from the Gorkhas, by
giving away half of his kingdom. Consequently, Pauri garhwal, including
today's Chamoli and Rudraprayag (partly) district came to be called British
Garhwal until India's independence in 1947. tehri,at the meeting point of
the rivers Bhagirathi and Bhilangna, became the new Capital of Tehri
Garhwal, Srinagar having been the old capital. Old Tehri Tehri town is situated at an elevation of 770 mts.and 84 kms. from Rishikesh. Tehri is situated at the holy confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangna rivers and is the important halting station enroute to Yamunotri-Gangotri and Kedarnath-Badrinath. |

This quaint town offers one of the most sepectacular views of snow capped Himalayas and the enchanting Bhagirathi vally. | Dhanaulti, located amidst thick, virgin forest of Deodar, Rhododendron and Oak, has an atmosphere of the long wooded slopes, relaxed outdoors, cool caressing breeze, warm and hospitable inhabitants, lovely weather and fabulous view of snow covered mountains makes it an ideal retreat for a relaxed holiday. Situated on the Mussoorie - Chamba route, Dhanaulti is 24 kms. from Chamba. | For those who are interested in trekkiing and adventure, Nagtibba, at an altitude of 3048 mts. offers one of the most captivating view of the majestic Himalayas as well as Mussoorie, Doon Valley and surrounding areas. The area is full of dense fortest and natural beauty. Nagtibba is the most unspoilt wonder round the year. To reach Nagtibba, one has to come to Pantwari via Nainbagh from Mussoorie or Vikas Nagar by direct bus service. Pantwari is the base camp for visiting the place,from there, it is 8kms. trek to Nagtibba, through dense forest. There is no accomodation at Nagtibba and one has to carry tents or come back to the picturesque village of Pantwari-gay with life and presenting the culture of Jaunpur. The second route is via Thatyur, which is connected by road to Mussoorie & Chamba, and is 66kms. from Thatyur to Nagtibba is a 21kms. trek via Devalsari. Devalsari is the last place where a Forest Rest House is available for accommodation on this route. |
